Valsotillo GR 1985, in a tasting at Madrid Fusión

One of the best vintages in Bodegas Ismael Arroyo, ValSotillo Gran Reserva 1985, will be tasted at Madrid Fusión in an event called “The Origins of a great idea” which whises to recall the beginnings of the DO Ribera del Duero (1982).

ValSotillo GR 1985 got a Gold medal in 1991 in the Zarcillo contest, one of the most reputable wine contests in Spain.  The wine will be tasted by two famous sommeliers from prestigious Spanish restaurants,  with another 10 historical wines from Ribera del Duero.

Valsotillo-Bodegas Ismael Arroyo ofrece los días 30 de septiembre y 1 y 2 de octubre  una experiencia enoturística diferente: un paseo a la luz de las velas por su bodega subterránea del siglo XVI.ruta_velas.jpg

La iniciativa se enmarca dentro de “Pasaporte a la Ribera”, el Primer Festival de Enoturismo de la Ribera del Duero que ha promovido ASEBOR (Asociación Empresarial de Bodegas de la Ribera). 

Nuestra propuesta es realizar un paseo romántico, misterioso, diferente, por la Historia del Vino; un recorrido por las centenarias galerías de nuestra impresionante bodega subterránea excavada a mano hace 400 años. Entre las barricas donde envejecen nuestros vinos ValSotillo a una temperatura constante entre 11 y 12 grados centígrados.

Weinhandlung Ritschard,  our importer in Switzerland, (Interlaken). , has organised a great tasting and dinner at Grimsel Hospiz hotel in the Swiss Alps, with a selected group of customers.

The landscape was amazing, so it was the dishes which were paired with a selection of our ValSotillo wines: Crianza 2011 was tasted with duck breast with vegetables; the second interesting pairing was ValSotillo Reserva 2009 and Wellington beef tenderloin with cabbage and the third one. And last but not least, ValSotillo Gran Reserva 2009 was the perfect pairing for a traditional cheese buffet.

The new review of Terry Kirby in ‘My wines of the week’ in ‘The Independent’ the last week of March was for ValSotillo CR 2011.

Kirby cheers to explore new wine regions apart from Rioja, and says that Ribera del Duero is a good option because “has emerged the last two decades as a major region, challenging its mighty neighbor in Rioja”.

Terry Kirby says about ValSotillo Crianza 2011 that “is a oak-aged Tempranillo, but a world apart in freshness and vibrancy, with wonderfully balanced flavours of blackcurrant, plums and mint”.

He also says that is “complex, structures and satisfying” and “wonderful with roast pork or chicken and chorizo casserole”.

Wine lovers from 26 different countries visited Bodegas Isma

Wine lovers from 26 different countries visited our winery last year. Around 500 people came to Bodegas Ismael Arroyo to enjoy our wines and to learn about our winemaking tradition, handed down from generation to generation since de XVI century.

More than the half of the visitors came from the United States.  But we got tourists also from Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Nicaragua, Chile and Panama.
