Bodegas Ismael Arroyo-ValSotillo\u00a0<\/strong> is located in Sotillo de la Ribera, in the province of Burgos. The winery is in a picturesque valley in the north east of the Denomination of Origin Ribera del Duero. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

We are a traditional family winery which started bottling the wine in 1979<\/strong> with two brands: Mesoneros de Castilla and ValSotillo. Ismael Arroyo is a pioneer winemaker in Ribera del Duero wine region. He is also one of the founders of the DO Ribera del Duero<\/strong> back in 1982.<\/p>\n

But the tradition of winemaking has been handed down from generation to generation in the Arroyo\u2019s family since the XVI century.<\/p>\n

Elpidio Arroyo, father and grandfather of the current generation won an award in a wine competition of red wines and ros\u00e9s in 1948.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

We also keep a Diploma of 1902 and a document dated in 1787 that talks about the taxes (diezmos) that the 200 growers in Sotillo de la Ribera village had to pay at that time after making the wine in the old \u201clagares\u201d.<\/p>\n
